Concentric for International Women's Day

Event dates: 4th - 19th MARCH 2016.

'Concentric' presents a group of ten very different women artists, all based in south Wales, with disciplines ranging from drawing and painting to installation and performance art. Strong, thought-provoking ideas celebrating the essences of women negotiating the influences of personal and societal history, anti/social behaviours, buried inner states and brash outer worlds, contexts and conflicts.

The unique Top floor of Jacobs Market gives the ten artists an opportunity to experiment, using the space in a flexible and organic way to deal and play with the notion of what it means to be a woman artist in the 21st century.

Participating artists:

  • Jacqueline Alkema

  • Adeola Dewis

  • Zoe Gingel

  • Penny Hallas

  • Rebecca Hammett

Silent Explosion: Ivor Davies and Destruction in Art

Event dates: 14th NOVEMBER 2015 - 20th MARCH 2016.

Ivor Davies retrospective at the National Museum Wales / Amgueddfa Cymru, Cathays Park, Cardiff CF10 3NP.

The contemporary galleries at National Museum Cardiff will host from 14 November 2015 and until April 2016, a major retrospective of Ivor Davies, one of the foremost figures in contemporary Welsh art. During the 1960s, Ivor Davies was a key figure in the Destruction in Art movement alongside some of the leading avant-garde artists of the period including Yoko Ono, Ralph Ortis, John Latham and the Viennese Actionists.

This exhibition will explore Davies work across various media (film, performance, painting and drawing) around the themes of destruction and material transformation. A great opportunity to explore Welsh cultural heritage and Davies’ political work as part of the Beca group – a collective of artists who was the instigating movement in the politicization of art in Wales.
