Glenn Ibbitson uses painting, printmaking, video, collage and graphic novels to engage with issues of surveillance, homelessness people trafficking and infringements of individual liberty. ‘Death of Richthofen’ weaves historical events into a personal meditation on a father and son relationship, investigating distortions of both personal and collective memory.
The message of any work is usually embedded as subtext, under cover of representational painting employing techniques extracted from the Western painting tradition.
For this reason, his art has been compared to a self-assembly furniture kit - don’t expect to find all the components in the box -or an instruction manual.
His is represented by works in private and public collections across six continents.
