Paul Brewer worked from the same studio in Cardiff for nearly 40 years producing hand made still-life and portrait photographic prints using a variety of nineteenth century printmaking techniques, including gum-bichromate, silver and cyanotype processes. These prints were made using specialist equipment installed in the studio, including a walk-in-size camera obscura and a 12x16 feet projector/enlarger bed.
After closing that studio on his retirement, he now works from a smaller studio in Fishguard, where he specialises in producing photographic prints that combine aspects of analogue and digital techniques.
Paul Brewer continues to exhibit, combining exhibitions with gallery residencies. He has worked in Finland, France, Germany, Belgium and most recently Ireland. He was the artist selected to represent the UK in Belgium the last time GB held the post of EU President. These projects were funded by Welsh Arts Council and Wales Arts International Awards. He has also been awarded major bursaries to fund studio project work, including a Millennium Lottery award used to fund a travelling panoramic camera obscura designed as a road trailer. He is a past winner of the Gold medal in Fine Art at the National Eisteddfod.
