Pip is a visual artist with a background in environmental education and presentation Her work is embedded in her landscape and community and explores our place on the planet focusing on a combination of practical, physical, emotional, political and philosophical questions. Drawing underpins all aspects of her work.
In 2002 Pip was awarded a Creative Wales bursary from Arts Council Wales to create Re-presenting Wool a film and installation. Recent bodies of work include Marking a Point arising from observation of the Welsh Assembly debates and Water Power, an artist book responding to the installation of a micro-hydro electric scheme at her home and workplace.
Conceived in 2009 Woollenline marked a departure in her work consolidating years of observational drawing seeking a visual language for the everyday world aiming to capture the mark that articulates the subtle nuances of behaviour, informs understanding and inspires insight in to the complexities of relationship and power. The work was brought to a conclusion in a new, animated film, Drawing Woollenlines.
Work from 2015 was investigating the place of the artist process alongside dementia, work brought together in an exhibition at y Gaer, Brecon and publication , Dementia Pronouns, Matter of Identity: I, you, we & other.
Current (2022) work explores our relationship to food.
She puts herself alongside others in order to find points of connection; artists, students, farmers, politicians, taking cues from their world as to how its materiality could inform her marks. In seeking an aesthetic she uses found colour, physical material and elemental forces within conceptual frameworks.
Pip works collaboratively with artists Kirsty Claxton and Elizabeth Adeline and with psychologist Dr. Alison Kidd to explore and develop process, also as a partner in Artistseeking Attention.
She is a member of Swansea Print Workshop and the Welsh Group and has exhibited widely in the UK and abroad.
