David uses analogue and digital photography to explore ideas about landscape and the environment. His work can loosely be divided into observational photography or ‘quiet photography’, and work with a more conceptual approach via abstraction, collage and the constructed image.

Since moving back to South Wales in the summer of 2019, David has been re-connecting with the area he left as a child. This process has driven the development of recent work which as well as referencing his own roots, documents the evolving landscapes of South Wales, reflecting on their sense of place and the role of photography in historical documentation.

Since completing an MA in Communication Media in 2006 and a one-year fellowship at the University of the West of England (UWE), David has exhibited throughout the UK. Further afield he was lead artist on an exchange program between Bristol and Hannover (2018/19) and part of Shutterhub’s ‘Post cards from Great Britain’ project in Haarlem, Netherlands (2020). Recent highlights in Wales include curating the ACW funded group show Hibernators|Gaeafgwsg in 2022 and in 2024 showing as part of the Inside/Out exhibition at Oriel Y bont, USW. David self-published his first photo book ‘joining the dots..’ in April 2025.
